FAQ

How do I add a copyright symbol or other symbols in the Metadata Editor?

Cataloging work often requires entering characters that aren’t available on a standard keyboard, such as accented letters, diacritics, or symbols from non-Latin scripts. Alma makes this possible with a built-in virtual keyboard in the Metadata Editor. Instead of typing codes or copying characters from outside tools, you can browse through predefined character sets and insert the exact symbol you need directly into a bibliographic or authority record. This tool is especially useful when working with names, titles, and notes that must display correctly in discovery and in staff records.

Instructions

  1. Open the virtual keyboard in one of two ways:
    1. From the menu: In the Metadata Editor, go to Editing Actions > Insert Unicode Characters.
    2. Using a shortcut: Enter Ctrl + Alt + P.
  2. Choose a character set from the drop-down menu. See the table below for a list of common symbols and where to find them.
  3. Scroll through the available characters.
  4. Click on a character to insert it into your record at the cursor’s position.
