FAQ

What is happening to the OCLC Connexion browser?

OCLC's two main products for creating and maintaining bibliographic records are Connexion and WorldShare Record Manager.

Connexion Record Manager
Standalone program devoted to cataloging One of several WorldShare services provided by OCLC

Can be used in two ways:

  • Client
    • a program installed on a Windows computer
    • will be available for the foreseeable future
  • Browser
Can only be used online

See this chart for an in-depth comparison of all OCLC cataloging applications.

As of April 30, 2024, the browser version of Connexion will no longer be available. The Connexion client will still be available. OCLC is encouraging users to switch to WorldShare Record Manager if they don't want to or can't install the Connexion client. Contact your cataloging administrator or open a ticket with OLS if you don't know how to get to your library's instance of WorldShare or if you don't have access to it.

Record Manager is integrated with other OCLC WorldShare products like Interlibrary Loan, Acquisitions, and Circulation. In the same way that the Metadata Editor is the cataloging module of Alma, Record Manager is the metadata section of WorldShare. OCLC has created this 10-minute video demonstrating the functionality of Record Manager.

You will have to configure Record Manager to export records to Alma. See SUNY's instructions here.
